It is once again time for the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) Week of the Young Child Celebration (WOYC). This week long celebration will last from April 19th-25th. Lisa Woolard, Executive Director - lisa@beaufortcountykids.org Beaufort/Hyde Partnership for Children 979 Washington Square Mall - Washington, NC 27889 -- 252-975-4667, ext. 3 www.beaufortcountykids.org ** "Investing in children makes good cents!" ·Monday, April 20th we will display children’s artwork (provided by child care centers, preschools and family child care homes) in various locations such as a storefront window on Main Street, Washington, the Health Departments, the Departments of Social Services, Brown Library, the Belhaven Public Library, on Ocracoke, etc. There will also be a “lunch and learn” opportunity at the Beaufort County Department of Social Services focused on Child Abuse/Child Abuse Prevention. Please RVSP and be prepared to bring a bag lunch if you plan to attend. ·Tuesday, April 21st is Provider Appreciation Day. Parents will be encouraged to wear stickers provided by Child Connections in recognition of the child care provided so that they can fulfill other duties. Parents will also be encouraged to do something extra special for child care providers in recognition of the importance of quality childcare. · Wednesday, April 22nd is Family Appreciation Day. Child care providers will be encourage to do something special for their families this day, such as inviting parents or primary caregivers for breakfast, lunch or providing a little “goody” bag for them. · Thursday, April 23rd will be our Washington Main Street Parade to celebrate the WOYC and to recognize April as Child Abuse Prevention Month. The theme is “Sharing is Caring...Storybook Theatre from Around the World”. We are encouraging marchers to come dressed as a favorite storybook character. The Parade will begin at 11:00. The route will begin at the grassy area in front of the Estuarium and end there as well. ECU Storybook Characters will perform immediately following the parade. In the event of rain there will not be a parade or a performance!!! **The Beaufort/Hyde Partnership for Children and Child Connections will be hosting an “open-house” from 5pm-7pm Thursday evening. This event is an opportunity for child care providers to showcase their programs for members of the community. At 6:00pm, we will present awards to those child care providers nominated and selected for an award. This is sponsored in part by the Washington Beaufort County Chamber of Commerce. · Friday, April 24th, is “Cuddle up with a good book” Day. Providers will be encouraged to read a copy of the book we provide at some point during this day. Guest readers are also available upon request!
